The Atkins Grapefruit diet plan is based on the same chemical reaction theory as the Grapefruit diet with the magic enzyme burning unwanted fat, and where small variety of foods are required at breakfast, lunch, dinner, and at bedtime.
Not much information exists on this diet. Most versions of diet plan promise a 10-pound weight loss during the 12-day diet.
Dieters who want more than 12 days of monotony must wait two days before starting the diet again.
Exercise is recommended in some versions and absent in others.
Long-term weight control is not part of the diet plan.
Does this diet have anything to do with the actual Atkins diet?
No. There is no mention of the Grapefruit diet on the Atkins web site and it’s pretty difficult to any find information on the Atkins grapefruit diet plan at all.
However, Atkins Grapefruit diet plan recommend eating five portions of different fruits and vegetables everyday along with your grapefruit. The Atkins form of the grapefruit diet supposedly fits with the "basic diet plan theory" because it is high fiber, high protein, low sugar, no trans fats.
Breakfast - 2 eggs, 2 slices of bacon, black coffee, 1/2 grapefruit or 8 ounces grapefruit juice.
Lunch - Salad with salad dressing, unlimited meat, and 1/2 grapefruit or 8 ounces grapefruit juice.
Dinner - Red or green vegetables (except starchy ones such as peas, beans, corn, sweet potatoes) or salad, unlimited meat or fish, and 1/2 grapefruit or 8 ounces grapefruit juice.
Bedtime snack - 8 ounces skim milk.
Fish of all kinds, chicken, turkey and other fowl, shellfish, meat such as beef or pork, eggs cooked in any style including fried, cheese, vegetables, herbs and spices.
Drinks low in carbohydrates such as diet soft drinks. Dieters are encouraged to drink black coffee and plenty of water throughout the day.
In the Grapefruit diet you can use butter, lard, any oils and salad dressings you desire and prepare foods in any method, including fried. Snacking is only permitted after dinner.
Guidelines for this diet include eating grapefruit, swallowing grapefruit capsules or drinking grapefruit juice before or at each meal.
The Atkins Grapefruit Diet recommends a cup of grapefruit juice (has about 8 carbs) or a cup of grapefruit sections (has around 18 carbs). Grapefruit juice must be unsweetened. Calories in grapefruit are 74 – 1 cup sections, with juice (230.0 g).
For years the grapefruit has been looked at as an ideal diet food because it tastes good and is relatively low in calories. Grapefruit can be incorporated into most diet plans if they are calorie restricted.
However, the Atkins diet doesn't count calories. It counts carbs. The real magic behind this diet is the fact that those who originated it are capitalizing on the Atkins name and the grapefruit diet popularity.
