(Lifetime Maintenance)

The four-step Atkins diet final part is the Lifetime maintenance phase or Atkins for Life. This phase is designed to maintain your target weight. You should be out of ketosis by now, and discover the amount of carbs you feel best on and maintain your goal weight.

Congratulations!

You have reached your body for life and now You will maintain it. Avoid the common end-of-diet mindset that can return You to previous habits and previous weight.

If weight begins to return Dr. Atkins recommends to repeat any of the diet phases.

Your Goal: Stick with the Atkins diet for life, to remain healthy and avoid gaining weight.

The last Atkins maintenance phase is where the dieter learns to accommodate his new lifestyle goals for a lifetime of healthy carbohydrate - friendly dieting. A change of lifestyle is required for the Lifetime Maintenance to take its full effect.

Atkins diet phase 4 continues the rest of your life as you continue to use the Atkins way of eating to maintain your healthy weight.

Atkins Diet Rules Of Lifetime Maintenance:

Begin Atkins Maintenance phase following the discovery of your "tipping point." Continue making healthy food choices and maintaining the carbohydrates you eat (according to the Pre Maintenance amount you determined) on a week-to-week basis. Follow Atkins diet rules!

Allowed: A bigger range of food is allowed once you have achieved your weight loss objective.

Drink at least eight glasses of water per day.

Carbohydrate consumption is increased a bit more as well. You have found Your "tipping point."

  • Calculate your acceptable carbohydrate range.
  • This will be the number of carbohydrates you can eat without gaining weight, and is your Atkins Carbohydrate Equilibrium (ACE).


  • Stay within your Atkins Carbohydrate Equilibrium (ACE) so that you do not experience any major weight fluctuations.

  • Make weight control a priority.
  • Weigh yourself at least once per week, and select a healthy weight range that works for you.


  • Review the Atkins Lifestyle Food Guide for ideas and recommendations of acceptable foods.

  • Exercise on a regular basis.

  • Drink at least eight (8 oz.) glasses of water per day.
