1. So, I can eat all the bacon and eggs I want?
Atkins is not an egg, cheeses and fatty meats diet. Only Induction phase suggests you incorporate meals with specific amount of eggs and bacon to help you start off successfully.
In fact, Atkins diet foods also incorporates a wide variety of lean protein choices that include fish, poultry, lean meat, eggs and soy. Just because protein is encouraged, following the Atkins plan is not a license to gorge. When following the Atkins approved foods plan, each of the food groups should be enjoyed in moderation.
It doesn’t mean you can eat whatever you want as long as it is low carb! The director of research and education for Atkins Nutritionals, Collette Heimowitz, has said:
"The media and opponents of Atkins often sensationalise and simplify the diet as the all-the-steak-you-can-eat diet. This has never been true."
2. Are all nuts and seeds acceptable Atkins diet food on Ongoing Weight Loss phase?
No. Different nuts and seeds have different percentages of fat, protein and carbohydrate. Atkins don’t recommend eating them during the first two weeks of Induction. But in OWL, if you are continuing to lose steadily, you can try introducing some acceptable nuts and see if they fit into your Ongoing Weight Loss regimen.
3. Do I have to buy special Atkins carb diet low foods to be successful on this diet?
Not at all. Even in the strictest sense, this diet includes meat, poultry, seafood, cheese, eggs, butter and a wide variety of vegetables. As the diet progresses, some fruits are added to the list of foods you can consume.
You will be given a list of Atkins can diet eat foods to include in your shopping list. If you wish to purchase low carb convenience foods, you may, however you do not need to.
4. The Atkins diet is too restrictive?
No, I don’t think so.
One of the keys to success with the Atkins Approach is learning to eat nutrient-dense carbohydrates for the rest of your life. These are foods that are packed with the most antioxidant vitamins and healthful phytochemicals relative to the amount of carbohydrates--so you’re getting the most “bang” for your carbohydrate “buck.”
Once you reach your goal weight and determine how many carbohydrates you can consume each day to maintain that weight, most people can enjoy a wide variety of food choices that include protein choices, vegetables, fruits, nuts/seeds, legumes, and whole grains.
5. Can I drink alcohols while doing Atkins?
The body burns alcohol for fuel when alcohol is available. So when it is burning alcohol, your body will NOT burn fat! This does not stop weight loss; it simply postpones it and you immediately get back into lipolysis (diet plan Atkins Induction).
Atkins diet alcohol consumption may increase yeast-related symptoms in some people and interfere with weight loss. If it does not slow your weight loss, an occasional glass of wine is acceptable once you are out of Induction so long as you count the carbohydrates in your daily tally.
A 100 ml (3,5 fl oz) glass of wine contains about 4.3 grams of carbs.
Spirts such as Scotch, rye, vodka and gin are acceptable, but DO NOT mix with juice, tonic water or non-diet soda, all which contain sugar.
Saltzer, diet tonic and non-aspartame diet soda mixers are permitted.
If you have added alcohol to your regimen and suddenly stop losing weight, end your alcohol intake!
